What you’ll achieve

As a Software Principal Engineer on the Common Crypto Toolkits team, you will lead the development and delivery of security-critical C and C++ libraries. You will help shape Dell’s shared capabilities for cryptographic abstraction, secure credential storage, TLS and certificate services, and enterprise key lifecycle management while ensuring cryptographic correctness, cross-platform portability, FIPS readiness, and API and ABI stability.

You will serve as a senior technical leader within the CCT organization, transforming security standards, cryptographic-provider changes, and product requirements into high-quality software. Working closely with architects and engineering teams, you will influence architectural decisions and turn technical direction into executable engineering plans.

You will

• Lead the development of CCT’s C and C++ libraries for cryptographic operations, secure credential storage, TLS, certificate management, and KMIP-based key management, while influencing their technical design and architecture.
• Design and implement secure, portable APIs and libraries for different platforms.
• Evaluate and integrate cryptographic providers such as OpenSSL and BSAFE while maintaining provider-independent APIs and consistent behavior.
• Drive secure development practices covering sensitive-memory handling, secure zeroization, certificate validation, algorithm governance, threat modeling, and FIPS 140-3 requirements.
• Partner with architects, security teams, and Dell product teams to refine technical designs, define integration requirements, troubleshoot complex issues, and provide backward-compatible upgrade and migration paths.

Essential Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including technical leadership in C/C++ systems software, security-critical libraries and cryptographic software.
• Deep expertise in modern C and C++, including memory and resource management, concurrency, debugging, secure coding, and cross-platform development.
• Strong understanding of cryptography and secure communications, including encryption, hashing, digital signatures, TLS, certificates, random-number generation, and key management.
• Proven experience designing and maintaining stable public APIs and ABIs, including versioning, backward compatibility, migration planning, and support for multiple consuming products.
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex cross-functional initiatives, influence technical strategy, communicate architectural decisions, and mentor experienced engineers.

Desirable Requirements

• Experience with OpenSSL, BSAFE, FIPS 140-3, KMIP, post-quantum cryptography, or cryptographic compliance and certification processes.
• Experience with CMake, static and dynamic libraries, cross-platform build systems, CI/CD, static analysis, sanitizers, API/ABI compatibility tools, and security testing.
